Penny-A-Knight-A-Day (PKD)

Overview

The Penny-A-Knight-A-Day (PKD) program is a long-standing Wisconsin tradition that demonstrates the Knights of Columbus’ commitment to supporting Catholic education and our bishops’ mission across the state.

Founded in 1970, the program encourages each member to contribute a small, voluntary daily offering—originally just one penny per day ($3.65 annually)—as a simple but meaningful act of charity.

While modest individually, these contributions collectively create a powerful impact, generating significant financial support for Catholic education within each diocese. Funds raised are returned directly to the diocese where they were collected, reinforcing the Order’s commitment to local support, unity with our bishops, and investment in future generations.

Program Details

How the Program Works

  • Members are invited to contribute at least $3.65 annually (one penny per day)
  • Councils collect contributions from members and submit them to the State Council
  • Contributions are tracked by Diocese
  • Funds are distributed back to each Biocese and presented to the Bishop

Key Program Principles

  • Voluntary Participation: Contributions may be included on dues notices, but must be clearly marked as optional
  • Local Impact: Money raised in a Diocese stays in that Diocese
  • Collective Giving: Small individual gifts combine to make a meaningful statewide impact

  • Provide regular updates on participation and totals collected
  • Encourage participation from:

  • Car washes

Timeline

  • Year-Round Program
